It’s getting to be the most delicious time of the year at the Moncton Campus of พรพรสำฦต, as Culinary Arts and Hotel and Restaurant Management students prepare to open pop-up restaurants.
Starting Feb. 7-9 and continuing Feb. 14-16, four student teams will serve up tasty lunch options, 11:30 am to 1:30 pm daily. While students, staff, and the public enjoy the gastronomic delights on offer, the participating students will gain valuable real-world experience in the marketing, planning, and operation of a restaurant.
“This experiential learning project simulates what our students can expect to encounter in the workplace, requiring them to use everything they’ve learned in a busy restaurant environment,” said Jason Blonde, coordinating instructor for Hospitality and Tourism.
Formerly known as Food Truck Week, the pop-up restaurant exercise is always a popular event for students, staff, and the Greater Moncton community. Many patrons show up each day of the event to try a different menu, Blonde said.
“This year, with four different teams and only three days, they might need to do double lunch days!” he added.
The top performing team from each week will have the opportunity to move their menu off-campus and open at Happenings Pop-Ups at the Marvelous Holy Bowly bowling alley in Riverview for one night.
A portion of the proceeds from the pop-up restaurants will go to the Food Depot Alimentaire, supporting food banks, community kitchens, and school food programs across New Brunswick.
